what's new
Friday, 24 February 2012 at 9:08 amOur boys performed extremely well in the Lake Grove Soccer for a Cure Tournament last Wednesday. We were able to beat two of the three teams we played and to claim second place in the Boys U9 division. Go Strikers!
We trust that we’ll carry on our excellent performance this coming Sunday when we take on the Rocky Point Flash in the final regular season match of the winter indoor league at Southbay. Our two wins have put us in a good situation. Collecting a win on Sunday against the Flash will earn us a spot in the playoffs. That playoff match will take place on Sunday March 4th. Pencil that on your calendar.
Our practice schedule will get back to normal in March. Beginning March 6th we’ll be practicing OUTSIDE every Tuesday and Thursday from 4:30 pm to 6 pm at the FJC field. These are required practices. (Also, we’ll be giving you details about special, optional, skills clinics that will take place on Wednesdays.)
We are planning on playing a friendly match with the Center Moriches Express for the 10th of March as part of our warm-up for the spring half of the 2011 - 2012 LIJ season. This will be an away match. Let us know if you will be available that day for the friendly. We will let you know the exact time when we hear from the Express.
On the 11th we would like to march in the St. Patrick’s Day Parade. Let us know if you can join us. We’ll be meeting at 1 pm that day on the south corner of Harrison and 25A.
The Strikers play our first official match of the season on the 17th of March. That match is a Long Island Cup game against the Bayport Surfers. League play continues on most Saturdays through the 16th of June (with a few breaks for holidays). We’ll post the schedule when we get it.

strikers to play in winter indoor league
Monday, 28 November 2011 at 8:25 pmThe Strikers will be playing in a winter indoor league at Southbay Sportsplex. Our first match is this Sunday, 11 December. All parents need to fill out the Parental Release Form (pdf). Bring the completed form to Thursday's practice, or to Southbay on Sunday. We haven't been informed of the match time yet, but we will let you know as soon as we find out.
strikers next match vs mastic cobras
Monday, 23 January 2012 at 10:32 amThe Strikers kick-off against the Mastic Cobras at 2pm on 29 January.
Yesterday's match against the Center Moriches Power was a success. Holding that side to only 4 goals, and scoring only 1 in the first half was a moral victory for the Strikers. Our game plan was to shut the Power's scoring machine down, and we did that. This coming week, we will work on offense, scoring, and finishing. Our defensively play is developing nicely. That's the first step of building a strong side, preventing the other teams from scoring. We expect a better result against the Mastic Cobras. Center Moriches Power shut-out the Cobras in league play last fall, 5 - 0. We were able to catch part of the first half of the match between the Cobras and the Sound Beach Force yesterday. The Cobras looked solid, but weren't totally dominating the Sound Beach side. Recall, that the Rocky Point Strikers performed well against the Force: the final score in their favor was 2 - 1.

strikers fall short of beating the heat
Saturday, 19 November 2011 at 6:03 pmToday, the Rocky Point Strikers played one of their most exciting matches yet. The Strikers came out of the gate looking strong, pushing into Manorville's end of the field and challenging their goal keeper several times. The Strikers stopped the Heat's initial foray, but the Heat took advantage of a defensive lapse and booted in the first goal of the match.

Rocky Point played a strong defense against Manorville Heat. Saturday, 19 November 2011
Down by only a goal at the half, the Strikers we set to come back and win the game. The Heat had other plans. They ran a set play at the opening kick-off of the second half, took the ball rapidly down the right side where the ball was crossed in and booted home. Now the Heat were up by 2. But the Strikers came back.
The Heat, sensing victory, started pushing up toward the Striker end leaving their defense open. The Strikers took advantage of this positioning to play the quick counter attack. The Strikers answered back with their first goal only minutes later. Energized by the goal the Strikers broke up the Heat's set kick-off play and pressed into the Heat's end multiple times and their hard work paid off with another goal. Now the score was 2 - 2 with only five minutes left to play.
The Heat ran their kick-off set play again, down the right side, and crossing the ball in. The Strikers weren't able to stop it. 3 - 2, the Heat. The Strikers kept the game interesting right up to the end with several more scoring opportunities, including a hard shot by R.S. that went just wide of the Heat's goal.
Despite the result, it was some of the best soccer played by the Strikers all season. They stuck to their plan, kept in the game, and aside from some lucky (or unlucky) breaks, they could have won it.
The Strikers next take the field on December 4 when winter indoor play starts at Southbay Sportsplex.
strikers beat center moriches express 3 - 0
Saturday, 12 November 2011 at 5:13 amWith J.F. and J.Ca. out because of injury and sickness, the Strikers took the field with only two subs. The loss of J.F. is made more significant because he's scored goals in the previous two matches. T.H. started in goal with J.Co., Y.E-G., and S.B. on the defensive line. D.S., R.S., B.L., and J.D. started in offense. J.D. and B.L. pushed the ball foreward early and combined to put a goal in during the second minute. R.S. had two excellent shots on goal during the first half, but the Center Moriches Goalie made some spectacular saves. The Striker offense pressed the Express hard for the entire first half and J.D. scored on a direct free kick. J.D. scored the only other Striker goal in the second half off a penalty kick. T.H. made two saves and Y.E-G. made a number of brilliant defensive plays which denied the tenaciously persistent Express offense.
The Strikers looked to be in fine form today despite the lack of depth from the bench, a deficiency which proved for be crucial in last Sunday's tie against Sag Harbor. With a three goal margin late in the second half, the Strikers again played a defensive last ten minutes. A few more offensive runs could have taken some of the pressure off the defense, but today the Strikers' backline was an impenetrable wall.
Looking at the division standings: Manorville Heat's 6 - 1 win over Southampton today clinches them the first place spot with 22 points. The Strikers have clinched the 2nd place spot with 18 point. Even a loss next week against the Heat won't hurt or improve our standings. The results of the Sag Harbor / Longwood match haven't been reported yet, but with only 11 points each, neither side can collect enough points before the end of the season to do any better than third place. The third place spot, however, is up for grabs; it's a three way race between Center Moriches, Sag Harbor, and Longwood. Southampton will remain stuck in last place; however, they have showed steady improvement over the season. The fact they scored their first goal of the season today will give them something to build on in the spring.
sag harbor tie strikers, 2 - 2
Monday, 7 November 2011 at 10:47 amS.B. made his second start in goal this season for the Strikers freeing up J.F. for midfielding duty. With Y.E-G. and D.K. unable to play, the line-up had to be adjusted to make up for the defensive gap. Sag Harbor scored the first goal, but the Strikers answered back with two goals in quick succession by J.F. The Strikers started the second half with a one goal advantage, but Sag Harbor seemed to step up their attacking game forcing the Strikers to play defensively for most of the second half of the game. The Strikers looked like they would hold on to the lead, but a Sag Harbor corner kick with 3 minutes left ricocheted into the Striker net. This jolted the Striker offence back into action, but despite two excellent drives at the Sag Harbor goal, luck didn't favor the Strikers in the end.
The tie is the third for the Strikers this season bringing their record to 4-1-3, good enough to keep them in second place. The Strikers are also the team with the most goals (21) and the best goal different (+12, one better than first place Manorville Heat). With two matches left in this half of the 2011-2012 season, the Strikers can secure a second place finish by winning the next two games. Odds are good that top ranked Manorville Heat will prevail over Southampton next weekend, so the Heat will likely have 22 pts going into our last match with them putting first place out of the Strikers's reach. The best the Strikers can do at this point is 21 pts.
strikers beat southampton, 4 - 0
Saturday, 5 November 2011 at 2:40 pmThe coaches adjusted the playing field today for the match against Southampton Titans. Y.E-G. moved up to the forward position to start the game. J.F. made an early shot on goal, but the scoring started near the end of the first half when Y.E-G. booted his first goal of the season. Shortly after that B.L. scored two goals in quick succession just before the half-time break. With a comfortable three goal margin, the Strikers played a more defensive second half. T.H. made two saves in goal to deny the Titans key scoring opportunities. J.F. put a ball in the net half-way through the second half (his second of the season) to put the Strikers up by four.
The win keeps the Strikers in second place only three points behind Manorville Heat who lost to Longwood Tsunami this morning. The Tsunami are playing their make-up game this afternoon, and if they win again they would have the same number of points as the Strikers, but wouldn't (technically) be tied for second since the Strikers have few goals against them on the season than the Tsunami.
Update: Since the Tsunami lost to Center Moriches Express, the Strikers remain unchallenged in the second spot in the division. A win against Sag Harbor Union tomorrow would put the Strikers on course to threaten to take the first place spot from Manorville Heat.
The Strikers play their next game tomorrow against forth place Sag Harbor in East Hampton at 1:00 pm.

strikers draw with manorville
Saturday, 15 October 2011 at 7:04 pmThe Strikers scored early in the match off a corner kick. R.S. sent the ball in and it rattled around in front of the net until T.H. raked the ball back away from the diving Manorville goalkeeper to boot in the only Striker goal of the game. From then on it was a match dominated by defensive play. The Striker offense kept coming at the Heat, but failed to connect with another goal. Late in the second half Manorville Heat squeaked a goal in with only seconds left (well after the 25 minutes of normal play) to tie it up.
It was a heartbreaker for the Strikers who were hoping for the win against undefeated Manorville Heat. But a draw it will have to be. On the bright side the Strikers are still in the running in with 10 pts in Division P. Given that today, third place Center Moriches Express fell to Sag Habor Union, the Strikers retain their second place standing.
strikers win a third!
Saturday, 1 October 2011 at 7:24pmToday, the Strikers hosted Center Moriches Express in a closely balanced match. Both sides played excellent football. The match turned out to hinge on defensive play. In the last minutes of the first half, R.S. sent a zinger across the goal on a corner kick and J.D. booted it in for the game's only goal. R.S. had an amazing game with a total of three shots on goal and some fast sprinting up the right side. The Strikers played a strong defensive second half to deny the Express a number of goal scoring opportunities. Strikers won, 1 to nil. And here's the winning goal:
Today's win puts the Strikers solidly in 2nd place in the LIJ's U9 Division P, and in excellent position for their 15 October date with number 1 Manorville Heat. The Heat beat Southampton Titans, 3 - 0 today to retain their top spot in Division P. The other Division P match today was a 1 - 1 draw invovling Longwood Tsunami and Sag Harbor Union.
picture day on saturday
Thursday, 29 September 2011 at 11:12amIt's picture day on Saturday, so arrive at the field at 2pm in your dark blue jersey. Our kick-off is at 3:20pm. Also, the Flash (the other, slightly old half) of last year's Raptors are taking on Northport/Cow Harbor at 2:10pm. So let's cheer them on, if we can fit it in between photos and warming up for our own game.
strikers win second in a row!
Saturday, 24 September 2011 at 3:30pmThe Rocky Point Strikers won their second game of the new season this morning playing away at Southampton. The Strikers scored early again this week, a solid shot by B.L. at 5 mins. R.S. scored a hat trick with three goals in a row at 10 mins, 13 mins, and 17 mins, rounding out the first half action. The Strikers played a conservative passing game during the second half, scoring only one more goal (J.F. at 27 mins). The final score, 5-0 Strikers.
